The end of a Thailaysian adventure…

We are now in Malaysia, and staying in the small town Jess’ sister’s (Florence’s) boyfriend (Badrul) lives. Comprendrez? Damned if I do.
Since last we spoke we went to Ko Pha Ngan, home to the infamous Full Moon Party. Alas, we missed the full moon…but we were there for the Half Moon Festival! Instead of being on a beach this takes place in a jungle and was absolutely immense. We picked up a bloody annoying Brummie from our resort on the way (she was travelling alone, couldn’t let her stay in when there was a jungle rave going on!), although she did serve as a handy ATM when the cab driver forgot to take us to one on the way. We adorned UV bodypaint and turned away drug dealers (not particularly subtle ones) while shocking the bar staff with our British drinking skills. We had to leave at 4am to make sure we showered, packed our bags and got our cab before the ferry left at 6.30am. We were slightly hindered, however, by two of the guys from our resort being highly disappointed in their half moon experience. They’d left the party with a couple of Thai girls feeling pretty smug, only to get back to their bungalows and be asked `how much?`. Needless to say they were pretty pissed off, and needless to say we found it highly amusing.
Our transit into Malaysia was, let’s say, less than smooth. Let’s leave it at that. You’ll no doubt hear of it if we’re stil smarting on our return. Anywho, we are nonetheless in Malaysia, although we were aiming for Edinburgh and ended up in Devon, if you catch me. We `landed on our feet` (albeit via a kick in the teeth) in Kuala Lumpur at around 3am and headed straight for beds in the most fantastic hostel. The walls were lined with paintings by previous residents, and the atmosphere was so chilled and funky despite the occassional cockroach! We stayed there for a few nights and did some of the sights, including a very high tower and a butterfly park. Oh, and we may be in a Malay music video or advert. Saw lots of turtles in the aquarium, including one 2m long! Epic.
We got a bus yesterday to Jerantut (where we are now), which is situated near the Taman Negara national park, which is a rainforest. The man running our hostel is the funniest thing alive, picture an Indian Gus from Cinderella crossed with Theodore from the Chipmunks and Napoleon. Genius. Badrul’s lovely and has been showing us the sights, including the best karaoke place in the world! You get a little room just to yourselves, therefore making the experience a little less embarassing, not that Jess needed any encouragement.
Today Badrul took us to a waterfall in the jungle where the girls went for a swim and I took pictures of all the wildlife (except the gross stuff, that just sent me off on a frenzy of twitching and scratching; not condusive to photo taking). There were a couple of leech incidents but we are mostly unharmed and looking forward to our canopy walkway adventure tomorrow in the rainforest. On our way out of the jungle today, a baboon crossed the road! Highly confusing moment when you’re trying to work out why that dog’s walking so funny. It all felt very Michael Palin-y, what with the drive through the traditional villages and the random fruit-stealing. We also went to Badrul’s home and met his four year-old brother and his mum made us the best tea ever!
Ok, that’s enough from me and this giant sea turtle sized note. Hope you’re all well.Love, me, Vicki, and Sticky the Idiot.
xxxxxxxxxPS. I forgot to say, Jess got a wacky haircut and now looks like someone from Wilson Phillips (most of you won’t get that, but I know Catherine will. It’s not my dad by the way.)
