The end of a Thailaysian adventure…

February 6, 2008
We are now in Malaysia, and staying in the small town Jess’ sister’s (Florence’s) boyfriend (Badrul) lives. Comprendrez? Damned if I do.
Since last we spoke we went to Ko Pha Ngan, home to the infamous Full Moon Party. Alas, we missed the full moon…but we were there for the Half Moon Festival! Instead of being on a beach this takes place in a jungle and was absolutely immense. We picked up a bloody annoying Brummie from our resort on the way (she was travelling alone, couldn’t let her stay in when there was a jungle rave going on!), although she did serve as a handy ATM when the cab driver forgot to take us to one on the way. We adorned UV bodypaint and turned away drug dealers (not particularly subtle ones) while shocking the bar staff with our British drinking skills. We had to leave at 4am to make sure we showered, packed our bags and got our cab before the ferry left at 6.30am. We were slightly hindered, however, by two of the guys from our resort being highly disappointed in their half moon experience. They’d left the party with a couple of Thai girls feeling pretty smug, only to get back to their bungalows and be asked `how much?`. Needless to say they were pretty pissed off, and needless to say we found it highly amusing. Read the rest of this entry »

The middle of a Thailaysian adventure…

February 6, 2008
Just a quickie to say hello while I’m hiding away from the sun. We’re now on Ko Samui, which is an island off the west coast of Thailand. It’s bloody hot here, and Jess and Vix are loving it. I’m enjoying it to an extent but it really is too hot and sunny for pasty ol’ me. We’re staying in a beach resort and our room’s a beach hut! There’s a bar and restaurant, but probably best of all there’s a Thai massage place on the beach. It’s a little hut on legs and the women are lovely. They were following us around all yesterday trying to massage us, and in the end Jess had a whole body Thai massage and a pedicure, Vix had a massage (it was only supposed to be shoulders and back but the lady was touching her all sorts of places), and I had a manicure. I know it’s completely pointless considering we’re backpacking, but it was only about one pound fifty. Read the rest of this entry »

The start of a Thailaysian adventure…

February 6, 2008
Greetings from Bangkok! We’ve been here about four hours now and have had a little wander through some of the markets but we’re too tired to do anything proper. Our journey took about 26 hours in total, involving a six hour wait in Bahrain airport. There is very little to do besides drinking in the bar to avoid being ogled. However, we had a nice time over our bottle of Blue Nun, chatting to a couple from Brighton who were on their way back from Thailand and giving us advice. And of course there was the man from Kuwait sitting nearby who was getting somewhat involved. At first he took interest in Jess but swiftly moved onto me, whereupon he offered to pay for me to go to Kuwait to see him. He settled with giving me his phone number and making me promise to call (suffice to say I will not call). He then started asking names and seemed to find the fact that mine and Vicki’s names rhyme quite amusing, so I managed to convince him that Jess’ name was Sticky. Genius. He kept calling her Sticky and she’d reply! It’s her own fault if you ask me. Read the rest of this entry »
